"--There's only one letter dad."

"Okay then, let's open that letter son!"

"Alright dad, this one comes to us from Grace, and here's what she has to say:

'ok, the lion-lamb thing didn't make me laugh, but many of the other 'toons did. I have to hand it to you guys; humor that is commentary on life really depends on the reader having a similar observation or experience.'

"Grace, you put your finger on a very peculiar point about humor. It really is subjective, isn't it? Son, I remember when we wrote the lion/lamb joke, I started laughing so hard that milk squirted out of my nose."

"Dad, we weren't drinking milk."

"Well, yeah, but if we had been. Frankly Grace, what one person finds funny, another person may not."

"Yeah dad, like that time you burned off your eyebrows when you lit up the barbeque and the rest of us couldn't stop laughing. Fortunately amidst the uncontrollable laughter, I was still able to get to the hose and put you out."

"That's it son! So you see Grace, it's not so much about individual perspective, it's all about somebody experiencing a lot of pain while everybody is standing around laughing their heads off."

"Now that's funny!"

I think that we can safely say that both of us fall into the tone-deaf category. Let me put it this way...we make the neighbors howling dog, in the middle of the night sound pretty good.
