I got a temple square referral once on my mission with the same last name as our next door neighbor who was a member of the church, but with a first name I didn't recognize.
We went next door and asked about the name and it was her PARROT. One of the previous elders from that area had gone to temple square and filled out a bogus referral.
True story. My husband's grandmother is Italian. She was disowned by her family when she joined the church and she moved to the U.S. Years later, her grandson, my husband's brother was called to Italy on a mission. While there, he found out he had a cousin who was a cardinal in the Catholic church who lived at the Vatican. He went to see this cardinal, saying he was his cousin, and the cardinal wouldn't see him because he was the grandson of a disowned member of the family. Then my husband's brother went again to the Vatican announcing himself as a missionary for the Church, and this cardinal agreed to see him! When the cardinal laid eyes on my brother-in-law, he said he looked so much like another member of the family he couldn't believe it and it opened the door for communication with the family again!
