My wife had an elders quorum president in her singles ward in San Diego give her this line repeatedly. Even after their relationship ended and we were engaged his "revelation" continued to influence our relationship, causing my wife to doubt at times if she was recieving proper revelation (he was such a good and spiritual guy after all)...
Ultimately he ended up setting up a website (http://votefordan.infinitehosting.net/) just a month before my wife and I were to be sealed in the temple, thus adding to wedding-month-tension...
Luckily I'm glad to say that my wife and I were happily married in the BHH, Alabama temple just three months ago.
I read this post and knew I had to share my experience. Although I left out the problems that this wonderful EQP's "revelation" caused my wife and I at the time, I think it's left FAR UNDERTAUGHT in the Church to the YSA that revelation regarding marriage is a two-person kind of arangement, and there isn't meant to be "the one".
Pres. Kimball said it best in his famous "Marriage and Divorice" when he said (paraphrasing) that any good man and any good woman could make a marriage work out.
I hope and pray that my wife and I's situation was a rarity. Yet, I'm painfully aware that it's not and that many young men (and occasionally women) go around claiming to have recieved "revelation" which in reality is just manipulation and a revelation from he who seeks to always answer in the strongest and most emotional of ways; Lucifer.
Thanks for the cartoon...Sorry it brought forth so much at once though :o)
Well I suppose I should clarify that little story since the facts aren't true. I assume I would be the EQP in the story but never once did I claim to "receive revelation" for anyone. The website was made before the engagement to get Leah to move back to California. It didn't work, she got engaged, end of story. My fiance does know about the website since we were friends while all of this was going on. There are much more details that have been left out but I won't mention them to spare the embarrassment of the original poster.
I just found your site and have been checking out all the previous posts. Who knew I would find such delicious gossip and feudery (is that a word?). Anywho...love this site and not just for the "feudery"!
We are Rick and Ryan Goldsberry. A father and son team who like to work together, and often make each other laugh...the wives just shake their heads and stare blankly.

Hi.
I really enjoy your site.
I mentioned 9th Ward and posted a link to this cartoon, along with a cartoon of my own that touches on the same topic, over at exceedinglycurious.com.
Keep up the good -- and funny -- work.

Just so you know, the EQ President you refered to in your blog is no longer the EQ President since he's getting married soon.
The worst part of it is...she doesn't know about his campaign website.

I am laughing so hard! I had that line used on me before! I wish I had thrown a flower pot at that guy.
LOL
